war on terror

"Republicans sided with Bush — at least for now. The bill "undermines Gen. Petraeus, undermines the mission he has to make America and Iraq safe," said the House GOP leader, Rep. John Boehner of Ohio. "What we have here is not leadership, it's negligence."

honestly, how much time and patience do republicans expect from the american public? the war in iraq has lasted more than 4 years, produced 3500 (and counting) dead american soldiers along with countless u.s. and iraqi casualties, and wasted billions and billions of dollars. not to mention destabilize a part of the world that was already on pretty shaky ground. anyone willing to open their eyes and see the bigger picture has to know this war is a major fuck up on every level.

the notion that this war is making iraq or america is safer is just ridiculous. maybe suddam hussein was a terrible guy, but at least he had his country under control. the bush administration has not only given up and coming terrorist a bigger reason to hate americans, but they have also given them a hands on training ground for serious urban warfare.

are we really a safer country when our president makes up his own rules? more than 70% of the country believes he sucks and that the war is going in the wrong direction. does he listen to the american people? nah, he just stays the course.

now there are reports that al qaeda has morphed into something far more dangerous than at any other time in its existence, strictly because it is no longer isolated to any one location. they have branched out and expanded. the internet is now a valuable tool for anyone wanting propaganda. what good is fighting a war in a country where terrorism was never really an issue? every month the news reports on how we have captured or killed a top ranking terrorist. does anyone really believe that makes a difference? its not like there arent 100 guys below that so called ranking member just chomping at the bits to step up to the plate. the bush administrations so called "war on terror" really seems to have had an opposite affect on terrorism.

on top of all of this, what do we do about iran? in so many ways its like the united states has a real purpose behind this war that doesnt involve fighting terrorism. maybe the plan all along has been to start a much bigger conflict for control over an oil rich part of the world. not like we should invest billions in finding renewable energy. maybe its easier to waste that money on war and profit.
