good ol' america

"Anyone, and I mean almost anyone, who is willing to go to work 40 or 50 hours a week and pretty much just do the minimum can have a decent life here," he said. "Tell Michael Moore to find a new home if he cannot appreciate the blessings this great country has bestowed upon him."

article: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070712/hl_nm/sicko_people_dc;_ylt=AqMMuHofGh1KNCZsWvDZ_JrVJRIF

this was a quote i pulled from an article about micheal moores new movie, sicko. this is exactly the wrong sort of thinking people have in our country. its like blind optimism. people that have always had it easy or never had to deal with the underbelly of how things work in this country when you dont have money, well, they all live with an unrealistic idea that all is fair. you are never going to sell me on the idea that you can live a good life working 40 hours a week @ $8.00 an hour.

also, i hate that micheal moores criticism of a system (or government) that really doesnt seem to be working is somehow labeled as anti-american. its not that i even really like the guy that much, but what he does and says is really what being an american is all about. meaning, in a "free country" he is entitled to voice an opinion, good or bad. its his "right" as an american. the last sentence in our "pledge of allegiance" is "with liberty, and justice for all". doesnt that mean this is a country for the people, by the people? why have we allowed a minority of this country have all the power?

its religion and conservative thinking that are holding our country back while the rest of the world is working to pass us up. the united states should be top dog in science, innovation, technology, and just about everything else, but we let old ways of thinking and our morals hold us back.
