good ol' america

"Anyone, and I mean almost anyone, who is willing to go to work 40 or 50 hours a week and pretty much just do the minimum can have a decent life here," he said. "Tell Michael Moore to find a new home if he cannot appreciate the blessings this great country has bestowed upon him." article: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070712/hl_nm/sicko_people_dc;_ylt=AqMMuHofGh1KNCZsWvDZ_JrVJRIF this was a quote i pulled from an article about micheal moores new movie, sicko. this is exactly the wrong sort of thinking people have in our country. its like blind optimism. people that have always had it easy or never had to deal with the underbelly of how things work in this country when you dont have money, well, they all live with an unrealistic idea that all is fair. you are never going to sell me on the idea that you can live a good life working 40 hours a week @ $8.00 an hour. also, i hate that micheal moores criticism of a system (or government) that really doesnt seem to b...

crazy religion

ok , before i get going here...i dont mean to offend anyone. this is strictly my opinion on this topic and in no way do i think my opinion means more than "yours". soo , radical religion is so crazy. americans only think in terms of " their " god. so many christians and catholics take the tradition and faith over fact and science. its so strange that in a society thats advancing so fast, we have religion to prevent us from really pushing our limits. our president is a religious man, and he invites that religion into his politics. because g.w. bush's faith says abortion is wrong, millions of people that are not of that faith will ultimately suffer. he is supposed to be a president "of the people". that is why religion and politics are supposed to be separate. okay, so im not even finished here. we should talk about...life. somewhere it always seems to get lost in the news, but literally, 100's of people are getting killed in iraq . everyday. th...

war on terror

"Republicans sided with Bush — at least for now. The bill "undermines Gen. Petraeus, undermines the mission he has to make America and Iraq safe," said the House GOP leader, Rep. John Boehner of Ohio. "What we have here is not leadership, it's negligence." honestly, how much time and patience do republicans expect from the american public? the war in iraq has lasted more than 4 years, produced 3500 (and counting) dead american soldiers along with countless u.s. and iraqi casualties, and wasted billions and billions of dollars. not to mention destabilize a part of the world that was already on pretty shaky ground. anyone willing to open their eyes and see the bigger picture has to know this war is a major fuck up on every level. the notion that this war is making iraq or america is safer is just ridiculous. maybe suddam hussein was a terrible guy, but at least he had his country under control. the bush administration has not only given up and coming terroris...

too much power

i thought this paragraph was interesting. why does the bush administration believe our idea of democracy is a fix for the worlds problems? "Nor did many hard-liners in Washington ever fully understand that using raw power to "impose" democracy on peoples who were not ready to seize it for themselves was a chimera. By insisting on cure-all elections in countries and territories that had no institutions of justice and security, or a politically aware economic middle class, to sustain democracy, the Bush team clearly seems to have overreached."

torture

america uses torture and "rough tactics" in its interrogations of "terrorists". but now it appears iran may have used some of these tactics on british soldiers. how much criticism can the west have for them? it sounds like iran may have cast the first stone into a much bigger problem. they are now being openly defiant of the west, and it sounds like they are not afraid to engage with anyone that wants to fuck with them. a few more incidents like this, and we are going to be at war. i dont think they feel the need to cooperate with america anymore and are starting to question why america has all the power. thats bad news. america took away suddam hussein, and in doing so they basically handed iran all the power in that region. how is a western democracy supposed to work in iraq if iran has all the influence of the people? no government will ever work if its people dont even believe in it.

politics

if there is one thing positive about g.w. bush and his administration...its that his shitty policies, and "shove democracy down our throats" approach to the world has made an entire generation of young people wake up and learn about how our government works. i never cared about politics until i realized just how bad a president could drag our country through the mud. it doesnt mean that saying "bush sucks" make a person political, but maybe it will make them want to know why he sucks. even now, with 70% of the country and many top politicians against sending more troops to iraq, bush still doesnt listen. then there is talk about the threat iran poses to us? wtf are we going to do in iran if we cant even handle iraq?? how does this administration expect to sell us another war, especially after fucking up on 2 so far? does he even need to sell us anything anymore? its like we gave iran all this power in the middle east just so we can pick a fight. war is profit, and m...
